Geum x ‘Alabama Slammer’ PPAF joins ‘Mai Tai’ PPAF, ‘Sangria’, and Tequila Sunrise’ PP#21,514 to make up what Intrinsic describes as 'a refreshing and tasty group'.
Geum ‘Alabama Slammer’ is a hybrid with a unique color combination of deep orange with red tipped single and semi double flowers all on burgundy red stems. Foliage is semi-evergreen.
This new Geum starts blooming in May and continues around three to four weeks or more.
The short clumping plants reach around 10” tall and wide with the stems reaching 18+” tall.
The plants prefer a moist to well drained soil in full sun.
These hybrid plants are hardy in zones 4-9 and are longer lived than the older chiloense varieties of Geum. These plants do their growing at the cool times of the season, so they can be planted early spring or early fall.
‘Alabama Slammer’ combines well with other Geum and early bloomers like Polemonium ‘Heaven Scent’ PP#20,214.
