I wear several hats .
All of my hats are supported by a wealth of experience and a down to earth, hands on, practical outlook.

My radio hat gives me chance to talk to BBC Oxford listeners on my monhtly garden phone in.

My writers hat allows me to write gardening books and articles for the likesof BBC Gardeners World Magazine.

My designers hat lets me help clients realise their desires. It sounds obvious but it is always important to remember it is the clients garden and not yours so, whatever style, you help the client to get just what they want .

My plantsman's hat lets me enjoy what must be the essence of a garden - plants. Designing with plants is my speciality and a gradually acquired list of nursery contacts allows me to create gardens where great plants are to the fore.
My gardeners hat lets me get my hands dirty and enjoy the pleasure of sowing and growing, of cultivating and nurturing and most of all enjoying the natural world

Qualifications & Experience

I have spent a life time in hortculture, twenty years of which were as head gardener of a prestigious Cotswold garden.
From 'umble beginings on a local authority Parks Department in Staffordshire I went on to train at Pershore College of Horticulture in the 1980s and eventually on to what I am doing now which is designing , advising and writing.
By understanding the elements of soil and biological science most garden problems are understandable and often avoidabel once you know the underlying cause.
Several years of designing and working with those who construct the designs has lead to very practical approach where garden designs not only have to look good but also need to 'work' in the long run and in a very practical sense.
